The BBC – Palestine, & John Pilger

I watched the whole of the film/documentary, The War You Do Not See by the journalist John Pilger. Clearly there were many contentious issues, but I have pin pointed just one here – the unresolved question of a beleaguered Palestine. Apart from the distressing picture of the before and after map of Palestine, it was evident that Pilger's question to a BBC executive about the BBC's lack of impartiality on this issue, had hit a nerve.

When Pilger asked why a Palestinian spokesperson was not present to place their views when Israel is always represented, the comment from the BBC's influential spokeswoman was "that is a very good point".

Now that is not necessarily an affirmation of intent, but at least it pin points one of the major problems between the BBC (and perhaps other major news outlets) and Palestine; the urgent need for a politically well informed English speaking Palestinian to speak for their country, and be available at the drop of a hat.

It seems to me that if this is achieved, the BBC will give balanced coverage to both sides whenever the subject of Palestine is discussed on TV.

Moreover, if the BBC did not comply with the democratic need for impartiality – the world press would note that by default,  they could never be trusted or taken seriously in the future. William Gladys – London 2010.
