Right now, Greenpeace activists dressed as tiger mascots are standing outside Coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal's office. They are there to deliver petitions signed by more than 20,000 people like you who want our forests kept intact.

The Coal Ministry's greed for more coal is threatening forests in Central India. These forests are home to large numbers of tigers and other threatened wildlife. A lot of people also depend on these forests for their livelihood. Coal mining will destroy both wildlife and forest communities.

We need to show the minister that the activists standing outside his office are not alone. They are supported by people who want their forests to be safe. We are sending a fax to the minister to give him this message. Lots of signatures on this message will show the strength of public support for the activists outside the minister's office.

Watch Greenpeace activists deliver the message of over 20,000 forest supporters to minister Jaiswal and then add your signature to this fax message.

There is enough coal in existing coal mines, combined with renewable energy and efficient use of energy, to provide sufficient electricity for us. There is no need to destroy more forests. This is exactly what the Minister of Coal is being told right now.

Coal mining is already destroying tiger habitats in Chandrapur,^[1] Maharashtra and is responsible for displacing thousands of people in Singrauli.^[2] In spite of all this the Coal ministry still wants more forests for coal.

Tigers, biodiversity and the millions who depend on forests need you. Tell Minister Jaiswal to spare the forests!
