Awantipora: Senior Congress leader and former minister Peerzada Mohammad Syed said he had escaped unhurt in a militant attack near Awantipora on Saturday evening.
Syed said he was on his way from Srinagar to his native village Damhal in Anantnag when militants fired on his bullet-proof vehicle between Barsoo and Awantipora. He said his PSO's retaliated but there was no loss of life or injury.
"When I crossed Barsoo and was approaching Awantipora, militants attacked my karwan and targeted my vehicle with volleys of bullets. The mirror of the vehicle cracked but by the grace of Allah I escaped unhurt," Peerzada told  Kashmir Reader over the phone.
However a police officer told Kashmir Reader that they had no information about the incident and no such attack took place in the jurisdiction of Awantipora police. Local shopkeepers also said they had not heard any sound of firing.
"The army convoy is yet to pass Awantipora, so ROP is still on the highway, so no such incident occurred in the Barsoo to Awantipora area," police said.
