The Wikipedia may not be fully trusted because too many minds and hands post and edited it.

The Wikipedia poster confused here on Buddha birthplace.  On the one hand the poster seems to be  recognizing: [" ... Hida Bhagavam Jateti Luminigame" (The Lord Buddha was born here in Lumbini Village). The text of the inscription in English reads: "Twenty years after the coronation, Beloved-of-the-Gods, King Piyadasi (Ashok) visited this place and worshiped because Lord Buddha, the sage of Sakyas was born here".[1]]

. अठ-भागिये (||*)

Devanapiyana Piyadasina Lajina Visati-Vasabhisitena

Atana Agacha Mahiyite Hida Budhe Jate Sakya Muniti

Sila-Vigadabhi-Cha Kalapita  Silathabhe Cha Usapapite

Hida Bhagavam Jate Ti Lumini Game  Ubalike Kate

Athabhagiya Cha.

And, later  gets confused somehow for no apparent reasons whatsoever. (This is why Wikipedia is not reliable. )

he Himalayan Voice also has already discussed this issue in 2010 with some scholars from around the world.

Thank you,

This is what Wikipedia research says and known to the world. Any thing else would be most likely unacceptable.

"Buddha" and "Gautama" redirect here. For other uses, see Buddha (disambiguation) and Gautama (disambiguation).

Known for
Gautama Buddha, also known as Siddhārtha Gautama Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, was a sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. A native of the ancient Shakya republic in the Himalayan foothills, Gautama Buddha taught primarily in northeastern India.
Founder of Buddhism
Predecessor
Kassapa Buddha
Successor
Maitreya Buddha

Buddha means "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." "Buddha" is also used as a title for the first awakened being in an era. In most Buddhist traditions, Siddhartha Gautama is regarded as the Supreme Buddha (Pali sammāsambuddha,Sanskrit samyaksaṃbuddha) of our age.

Gautama taught a Middle Way between sensual indulgence and the severe asceticism found in the Sramana(renunciation) movement common in his region. He later taught throughout regions of eastern India such as Magadha and Kośala.

The times of Gautama's birth and death are uncertain: most historians in the early 20th century dated his lifetime as circa 563 BCE to 483 BCE, but more recent opinion dates his death to between 486 and 483 BCE or, according to some, between 411 and 400 BCE. However, at a symposium on this question held in 1988, the majority of those who presented definite opinions gave dates within 20 years either side of 400 BCE for the Buddha's death. These alternative chronologies, however, have not yet been accepted by all other historians.

Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism, and accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules are believed by Buddhists to have been summarized after his death and memorized by his followers. Various collections of teachings attributed to him were passed down by oral tradition, and first committed to writing about 400 years later

Dear All,

Today, we have published two short notes on Lumini and Kapilvastu also: ( Two Notes on the Buddha Birth-Spot Lumbini and His Homeland Kapilavastu) by a Professor of history from Bhuvaneshwor of Orrisa in India and Dr. Kishore Sherchand from Sacramento, California, USA.

We have linked  a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku0q-SZC35s also to one of these notes. In the video Prof. Dash says he  disagrees with those who otherwise believe the Buddha being born in 'India' or 'Bharatvarsh' or even 'Orrisa' also.
