A Cinema of Resistance initiative

Cinema of Resistance reached Kolkata.I have been following the movement since it began. It is personally satisfying that our dear Sanju alias Sanjay Joshi is the Convener, Cinema of Resistance, JSM. I have seen him as a student of class six or seven while I stayed with them at their residence in Allahabad.100,lookerganj is a milestone for me. We are a family which is scattered all over India.

Kashturi and our old friend Rajiv talked in detail but I was waiting for the detail.I would join them on the second day.

Nakul kumar Singh would present a show on Matuti strike also.The festival would witness another current film, `Mujaffarnagr Destimonals'.The audiance would also enjoy the punjabi film, `Anne Ghode da dan'

I appeal all friends in Kolkata and around to participate from the beginning.Cine club movement is an old movement in kolkata. Nevertheless,it is a beginning as the festival is concerned with resistance which is assumed to be quite absent.The festival would help you to land right into the reality of resistance countrywide.

I hope,no one concerned with Indian reality would afford to miss the most happening event in the city of joy which is also famous as city of resistance.

Film maker Surya kant Das would be presenting the story of resistance in Orrissa.

आखिरकार देश के छोटे नगरों में हंगामा बरपाने के बाद प्रतिरोध का सिनेमा कोलकाता पहुंच ही गया। हम सबके प्रिय कथाकार शेखर जोशी जी के सुयोग्य बेटे संजय जोशी,हमारा संजू इस आंदोलन के संयोजक हैं। जो निजी तौर पर शुकुन देता है।

इस फिल्मोत्सव में जहां आनंद पटवर्धन जैसे प्रतिष्ठित फिल्मकार के सिनेमा से गुजरने का ेक बार फिर मौका मिलेगा कोलकातावासियों कोक्योंकि कोलकाता में आनंदअत्यंत प्रिय फिल्मकार हैं तो नये फिल्मकारों के अति महत्वपूर्ण सामाजिक सरोकार से सरोबार करतब और करिश्मे के भी मुखातिब होंगे आप।मसलन मुजफ्फरपुर के दंगा अनुभव से भी गुजरकर लहूलुहान होना है।

जनसंस्कृति मंच की ओर से इस तीन दिवसीय फिल्मोत्सव का आयोजन जादवपुर विश्वविद्यालय के त्रिगुमा सेन आडिटोरियम 20 जनवरी से यानि सोमवार से हो रहा है।आगामी 22 जनवरी तक होने वाले इस समारोह में महत्वपूर्ण फिल्मों के प्रदर्शन के अलावा फिल्म विधा पर सेमिनार,परिचर्चा और संवाद के तहत अन्य गतिविधियों का भी आयोजन है। कस्तूरी और उनकी टीम ऐतिहासिक शुरुआत कर रही हैं।

इस फिल्मोत्सव के सारे कार्यक्रम सुबह ग्यारह बजे से लेकर रात आठ बजे तक चलेंगे। प्रवेश अबाध है।हाल में जयपुर के कारपोरेट साहित्य उत्सव के मुकाबले इस नगण्य लेकिन अत्यंत संवेदनशील फिल्मोत्सव का कोई प्रायोजक भी नहीं है। किसी महानगर के वाणिज्यिक चरित्र के मद्देनजर यह अतिशय महत्वपूर्ण है।

इस फिल्मोत्सव में आनंद के अलावा तारिक मसूद,कैथरीन मसूद,मंजिरा दत्त,वसुधा जोशी,रंजना पालित और गुरविंदर सिंह की फिल्में भी दिखायी जायेंगी।मुजफ्फरनगर दंगों पर फिल्म मिस की नहीं जा सकती तो ओड़ीसा के प्रतिरोध संघर्ष की दास्तां भी पेश करेंगेफिल्मकार सूर्यकांत दास।

सोमवार को सुबह 11 बजे फिल्म व नाट्य समीक्षक शमीक बंद्योपाध्याय समारोह का उद्घाटन करेंगे।इल मौके पर संजय काक,सूर्यकांत दास,संजय जोशी,नकुल सिंह साहनी,रानू घोष,विक्रमजीत गुप्ता, मैनाक विश्वास, मौसमी भौमिक,राजीव कुमार और सूर्यकांत मजुमदार जैसे लोग उपस्थित रहेंगे।

KOLKATA, 16th January 2014

During January 20-22, the Kolkata Chapter of 'Cinema of Resistance' national initiative will organize the 1st Kolkata People's Film Festival. This festival is the 35th edition of a series of peoplefunded independent film festivals organized regularly by 'Cinema of Resistance' in cities and towns of north India over the past eight years. This is the first time that such a film festival is being organized in West Bengal. The festival will be attended by a number of filmmakers, including Sanjay Kak, Moinak Biswas, Ranu Ghosh, Bikramjit Gupta, Nakul Singh Sawhney, Surya S Dash and ethnomusicologist Moushumi Bhowmik.

A pre-festival Press Meet will be held at the Buddhadeb Basu Sabhaghar auditorium (inJadavpur University campus) on Saturday, 18th January 2014 at 2:00 pm. You are cordially invited to attend.
